    The Vocational Training Council (VTC) participated in the four-day Education & Careers Expo held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre starting today (1-4 February), providing one-stop information for young people and in-service workers on the progression pathways available to them through vocational and professional education and training (VPET). Interested Secondary 6 students can also apply for the programmes on the spot. Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare Caspar TSUI officiated at the opening ceremony and toured the VTC Booth to check out the innovative teaching facilities and scientific research outcomes of VTC students and teachers.

    Unveiling the Education & Careers Expo, Mr Tsui toured the VTC Booth, exchanging with students and teachers to understand the latest development of VPET.

    Adopting the theme of “Skilling for the Future”, the VTC booth this year showcased products of technological innovation developed by VTC students, prizewinning works and its innovative teaching facilities. Together, they are the testimony of VTC’s drive to promote interdisciplinary development with the aim of equipping the younger generation with the requisite professional knowledge and skills of the 21st Century. In the Skills Excellence Zone that enhances interaction with members of the public, visitors can play an air hockey game with the robot “Air Hockey Go!” through a computer. They can also try out “Smily”, a device using the latest knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with human-computer interaction, to enhance customer services at shopping malls.

    The VTC booth will provide counselling services on progression options and programme information at a number of VTC member institutions, including THEi, IVE, HKDI, the International Culinary Institute (ICI), Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and Youth College. Secondary 6 students will be able to apply on the spot through the VTC online admission system. The deadline for application is 28 February.

    Established in 1982, the Vocational Training Council(VTC)is the largest vocational and professional education and training provider in Hong Kong with some 250,000 students and trainees each year. The mission of the VTC is to provide a valued choice to school leavers and working people to acquire the values, knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and enhanced employability, and also to provide support to industries for their manpower development.
