    Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Mr LEUNG Chun-ying was impressed to see the range of exciting research products being carried out by Vocational Training Council (VTC) ’s Engineering Discipline and the development of VTC, during the recent visit (14 July) to its member institution Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) (Tsing Yi).
     
    VTC Chairman Dr Clement CHEN, Executive Director Mrs Carrie YAU and Deputy Executive Director Dr Lawrence CHAN, together with students involved in the research development, introduced Mr Leung to NAO, a robot equipped with the smart home system and designed to take care of elderly people; a robot programmed to play badminton, which was first runner-up in the recent Robocon 2015 Hong Kong Contest beating competitors from local universities; the fourth and fifth-generation ‘SOPHIE’ solar-powered cars; and the AirTY Centre, the first ever aircraft simulation cabin among tertiary institutes purposed for the practical training of students studying aviation and passenger transport services.   All these are testimony to the achievements of vocational education and training.

    Established in 1982, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is the largest vocational education, training and professional development group in Hong Kong with some 250,000 students and trainees each year. The mission of VTC is to provide a valued choice to school leavers and working people to acquire the values, knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and enhanced employability, and also to provide valued supports to industries for their manpower development.
