    Application for VTC 2016/17 cohort of programmes starts

    The Vocational Training Council (VTC) provides around 18,500 places from some 140 full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies and Diploma of Vocational Education programmes in the 2016/17 academic year for Secondary 6 students. Application will start from 27 November until 29 February 2016.
     
    In 2016/17, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) will offer up to 19 vocationally-oriented and practice-based self-financing degree programmes. Among them, 3 are new programmes namely Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information and Communications Technology, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Surveying and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Retail Management.
     
    The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) will provide more than 90 Higher Diploma programmes next year including new programmes like Food Product Development, Optometric Support Services, Fashion Media Design, Costume Design for Performance and Fashion Design Menswear. More so, IVE Business Administration Discipline will launch the International Track Higher Diploma programmes in 2016/17 academic year whereby all newly admitted students will articulate to a relevant locally accredited, Hong Kong government recognised honours bachelor’s degree programme offered by designated British universities upon successful completion of their Higher Diploma programmes. The designated British universities include Sheffield Hallam University, University of Central Lancashire and University of Northumbria at Newcastle. 
     
    To cater to different aspirations of Secondary 6 students, apart from Degree and Higher Diploma programmes, VTC will offer 8 Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes while the Youth College is to offer 16 Diploma of Vocational Education programmes. (General entrance requirements of different levels of VTC programmes are set out at Annex 1.)
     
    Students can apply through the VTC Admissions Homepage (http://www.vtc.edu.hk/admission/en/) and submit one application for programmes of the above institutes (See Annex 2). Applicants have to make course choices at application and interviews will be arranged after the HKDSE Examination next year if required.
     
    In tandem, up to 7 Degree programmes offered by THEi will be covered by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors. They are Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Landscape Architecture, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Horticulture and Landscape Management, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts and Management, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Environmental Engineering and Management. Secondary 6 students are welcome to apply for the programmes through JUPAS on or before 2 December.
     
    Starting this Friday (27 November), THEi, IVE, HKDI and Youth College will organise Info Days in three consecutive weeks. Campus guided tours, disciplines’ taster programmes and activities, career consultation and parents’ talks will be held to facilitate students and parents to better understand VTC programmes, which provide a good combination of academic knowledge and industry know how, as well as a way to diversified academic articulation and career pathways. Interested students can apply for VTC programmes on spot starting 27 November. (Annex 3)
