    Hong Kong Delegation departing for São Paulo Brazil to compete in WorldSkills Competition

    Representing Hong Kong, 18 young skilled competitors departed last night (5 August) for 43rd WorldSkills Competition to be held in São Paulo, Brazil. They will compete with elite peers from around the world at the Competition, hailed the “Skills Olympics”.

    The 43rd WorldSkills Competition will be held from 11 to 16 August in São Paulo Brazil. The Hong Kong competitors are prize winners at the WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition 2014, jointly organised by the Vocational Training Council, the Construction Industry Council and the Clothing Industry Training Authority, and selected by experts for the WorldSkills Competition 2015. Competing with young talents from around the globe, the skilled Hong Kong competitors will take part in 16 competition trades: beauty therapy, electrical installations, graphic design technology, hairdressing, information network cabling, IT software solutions for business, mechatronics, mobile robotics, painting & decorating, plumbing & heating, restaurant service, merchandising and window dressing, wall & floor tiling, visual and web design, and with pâtisserie & confectionery and joinery as new. Together they will compete with their international peers in order to test themselves, as well as raise professional standards and best industry practice.
     
    Fielding the largest ever team, Hong Kong will also take part in the highest number of competition trades since first joining the Worldskills Competition in 1997. During the past year, the Hong Kong competitors underwent intensive training and vowed to give their best in the Competition. Hong Kong Team has won two Golds, one Silver, four Bronze and 32 Medallions of Excellence since 1997.

    Established in 1982, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is the largest vocational and professional education and training provider in Hong Kong with some 250,000 students and trainees each year. The mission of VTC is to provide a valued choice to school leavers and working people to acquire the values, knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and enhanced employability, and also to provide valued supports to industries for their manpower development.
