The results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) were released today (12 July). The Vocational Training Council (VTC) mounted the VTC Central Admission Scheme at various member institutions between today and 17 July to offer HKDSE candidates a wide and diverse choice of more than 140 full-time programmes that range from Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma. Prospective applicants can go to Tsing Yi campus of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), all campuses of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), and the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) to apply for VTC programmes. On-site interviews will be arranged and successful applicants will be notified of the offer results on the day of the interview. (General entrance requirements are set out in Annex 1.) Meanwhile the “conditional offer” applicants received earlier will be converted to a confirmed offer if their HKDSE results meet stipulated requirements. They are required to confirm acceptance of their offers in person at the offering campus between 10am and 4pm today. Students having not yet submitted their applications, without offers or who have not accepted offers can bring along their HKDSE result slips and visit THEi (Tsing Yi), IVE and HKDI campuses between today and 17 July to join the Central Admission Scheme for VTC programmes. After confirming acceptance of the offers, applicants are required to complete registration in person at the offering campus before 12:00 noon 17 July, or else the offer will become null and void. In the 2017/18 academic year, the VTC will provide more than 17,000 places in its Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education programmes as well as Diploma programmes in Hotel and Tourism, and Chinese Cuisine/International Cuisine. THEi offers 19 vocationally-oriented degree programmes for Secondary 6 students across its faculties of Design and Environment, Management and Hospitality, and Science and Technology. Among them, seven will be covered by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors. They are Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Landscape Architecture, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Horticulture and Landscape Management, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts and Management, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering, and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Environmental Engineering and Management. IVE, HKDI and the International Culinary Institute (ICI) provide around 100 Higher Diploma programmes, including five new programmes in Data Science and Analytics, International Theme Park and Event Management, Special Child Care and Inclusive Education, Aviation, and Visual Journalism. In addition to the Degree and Higher Diploma courses, IVE offers eight programmes leading to the award of the Diploma of Foundation Studies, which is accepted by the Government as a qualification equivalent to five HKDSE subjects at Level 2, including English Language and Chinese Language. In tandem, the Youth College offers 16 Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) programmes under three major study areas: Business and Services, Engineering, and Design and Technology. Secondary 6 students can pursue higher qualifications or gainful employment upon award of a DVE. The Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI) / Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) / ICI provide another eight employment-focused diploma programmes for entry into respective professions.
