VTC receives donation from Tin Ka Ping Foundation
    to enrich students’ learning experience

The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has received a donation of HK$3 million from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation in support of a wide range of student development initiatives and outbound exchange programmes to promote appreciation of diverse cultures. A cheque presentation ceremony was held today (30 July) at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), underlining VTC’s commitment to provide students with enriching learning experiences, thereby broadening their global horizons and equipping them with wide professional skills.

Chairman of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation Board TIN Hing-sin and Director of the Foundation Board TIN Wing-sin presented a cheque for the donation to VTC Executive Director Carrie YAU. The funding will be utilised to finance various student development initiatives, including discipline-led exchange programmes, whole-person development activities and volunteer services outside Hong Kong.

TIN Hing-sin said VTC and the Foundation shared a common goal in nurturing positive morality and literacy among the young generation. He hoped that the donation could help VTC students gain more professional skills and acquire valuable life experiences through taking part in various kinds of student development activities and volunteer services. More young talent would be groomed with both practical skills and virtues for society.

VTC Executive Director Carrie YAU expressed her sincere gratitude to the Foundation for its support in promoting vocational and professional education and training (VPET). With this generous donation, she said, about 800 VTC students would benefit from the new learning activities to be launched in the coming five years. They would be provided with ample opportunities to get to know diverse cultures and understand socio-economic development and prospects in different places, while at the same time learning communication skills and team spirit.

The Tin Ka Ping Foundation has been a staunch supporter of VTC student development initiatives, including two previous donations to sponsor students joining exchange programmes to the vocational and technical college in Guangxi. The new donation will further support students to participate in volunteer services and exchange programmes in different countries such as Cambodia, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia and Romania.

The Tin Ka Ping Foundation was founded by the late Dr TIN Ka-ping in 1982 and is devoted to promoting charitable causes, in particular support for the education sector. To achieve its mission of supporting educational development at different study levels as well as campus development projects, the Foundation has made generous donations to set up scholarships, sponsor educational activities and offer research grants over the years.

Established in 1982, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) is the largest vocational and professional education and training provider in Hong Kong. The mission of VTC is to provide a valued choice to school leavers and working people to acquire the values, knowledge and skills for lifelong learning and enhanced employability, and also to provide support to industries for their manpower development.
