    Lecturer (Mechanical Engineering)
    School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE)

    The School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) is a self-financed arm of the Vocational Training Council (VTC).  It offers top-up bachelor degree programmes to VTC’s Higher Diploma graduates and other sub-degree holders in collaboration with overseas universities.  Applications are now invited for the Lecturer (Mechanical Engineering) post at SHAPE.
     
    Major Duties:
    (a) To perform teaching duties including supervision of students’ projects in at least THREE of the following subject areas:
      (i) Mechanics of Solids and Fluids
      (ii) Engineering Dynamics
      (iii) Advanced Thermo-Fluid Mechanics
      (iv) Management of Mechanical Design and Research
      (v) Renewable Energy Systems
      (vi) Automation and Control
      (vii) Applied Heat and Mass Transfer
      (viii) Professional Research Project;
    (b) In the capacity of Programme Coordinator, to assist in planning and deploying resources for top-up degree programmes, and implementing the relevant quality assurance policy, such as validation and accreditation of programmes;
    (c) To liaise with overseas universities in matters relating to effective delivery of individual top-up degree programmes;
    (d) To work closely with the SHAPE office and other operational units in the promotion and operations of top-up degree programmes;
    (e) To initiate, develop and render services to facilitate students’ learning;
    (f) To carry out duties in relation to student and academic administration;
    (g) To develop programme curriculum and teaching, learning and assessment materials; and
    (h) To participate in networking with industry / industrial attachments, departmental projects and functions, including but not limited to consultancy services, research studies, seminars and exhibitions.
       
    Requirements:
    (a) A recognised Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent; preferably with a doctorate degree or a relevant professional qualification in related discipline;
    (b) At least 4 years’ relevant teaching experience at tertiary / degree level or relevant work experience, preferably with experience in research / dissertation / project supervision and in providing advice and coaching in academic writing;
    (c) Demonstrated academic networking capability;
    (d) Familiar with, and preferably with experience in top-up degree programme design, development, coordination, student admission, assessment & reporting, accreditation, and in the implementation of quality assurance policies;
    (e) Good understanding of the development of top-up degree programmes; and
    (f) Good administrative, presentation, interpersonal, communication and team building skills with a high level of proficiency in both English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua.
         
    Notes:
    (1) The post is time-limited in nature, up to 31 August 2022 initially, and the continued need for the post is subject to review.
    (2) The initial Posting is in SHAPE (Tsing Yi).
    (3) Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment in English.
    (4) The appointee may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours and at different work locations as assigned.
