Starting in the latter part of November, various member institutions of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) will host Info Days, namely the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI) / Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) / International Culinary Institute (ICI) and the Youth College (see attached Annex for detailed list). Students and parents are welcome to tour the campus facilities and try out discipline taster programmes and activities, as well as join programme briefings and talks for parents to further understand the diversified progression pathways from diploma to degree levels. Those interested in applying for full-time post-Secondary 6 VTC programmes can do so on site. Info Days promoting degree programmes will be hosted in THEi campuses in Tsing Yi and another campus due to open soon in Chai Wan on the consecutive dates of 24 and 25 November. Various taster programmes will be arranged to familiarise visitors with the study programmes on offer. An Environmental Lapel Ornaments Workshop organised by THEi (Chai Wan) will spur the creativity of visitors and provide information on the latest eco-fashion trends and the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design programme. Meanwhile a Behind the Crime Scene Workshop hosted in THEi (Tsing Yi) will allow student visitors to experiment under guidance with different testing methodologies like fingerprint identification and substance testing, so as to learn more about the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Testing and Certification programme and work of the testing and certification industry in a fun-filled way. In tandem, programme talks and admission briefings will be held to highlight the degree programmes for the new academic year under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). Interested Secondary 6 students are welcome to apply for the 12 SSSDP degree programmes through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS), covering the following study areas: Fashion Design, Product Design, Landscape Architecture, Culinary Arts and Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management, Horticulture and Landscape Management, Surveying, Sports and Recreation Management, Building Services Engineering, Multimedia Technology and Innovation, and Information and Communications Technology. Students admitted to these programmes will be entitled to subsidies ranging from HK$40,000 to HK$70,000 each. Various IVE campuses, HKDI, HTI/CCI/ICI (Pokfulam) are all prepared and ready to bring a series of exciting programmes to visitors including the display of SOPHIE VI at IVE (Tsing Yi), the sixth-generation solar car developed by the IVE Engineering Discipline deepen the public’s awareness of renewable energy. SOPHIE VI made its mark recently by completing the endurance adventure of the World Solar Challenge 2017 in Australia as the fourth team in the Cruiser Class to cross the finish line. Meanwhile the digital marketing workshop held in IVE (Lee Wai Lee) will enable visitors to better understand the application of new marketing tools like eyeball tracking and brainwave detection. A representative of the Hong Kong Tourism Board has been invited to talk about latest developments in tourism. Those who try out the “Transmedia Game Story: The Third Eye” taster programme mounted at HKDI will experience storytelling in the virtual game world, so that they can better understand the hot transmedia trend in the creative industry. Concurrently a mini fashion show will be held. Furthermore, HTI/CCI/ICI(Pokfulam) will stage an International Cuisine Demonstration, Coffee & Selfies and Flour Doll Demonstration. Last but not least, Youth College, which offers a wide range of full-time study choices for young people above Secondary Three and Secondary Six, will have Youth College (Tuen Mun) to hold its Open Days on 8 and 9 December, which will conduct taster programmes on hairdressing, beauty care as well as an immersive workshop on Hologram technology, fitness tests and a display of automotive facilities.
