Youth College Open Days help parents and students experience diversified vocational and professional education and training

Youth College, a member institution of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), will hold Open Days at six of its campuses over three consecutive Fridays on 1, 8 March and 15 March. Parents and students can visit the campuses to learn more about the College’s interactive teaching and learning facilities, and experience its fun-filled teaching approach through game booths. Aspiring students can apply on site for Diploma of Vocational Education programmes (DVE) or Vocational Baccalaureate Programmes (VB) to give themselves a head start in their future career path and reach for their dreams through vocational and professional education and training (VPET).

Other members of the public are also welcome to visit the Open Days where an array of activities will be on display, such as 3D scanning and printing, virtual reality (VR) teaching facilities, a robotic obstacle course race, a showcase of vintage buses, and DIY skincare product, hairstyling and nail art services (details attached in the Annex). Visitors will be able to experience in person the teaching approach of Youth College, which stresses both fun and the acquisition of professional skills.

Other VTC facilities adjacent to the Youth College campuses will also be open on the corresponding dates, including the Pro-Act Training and Development Centres at the VTC Kowloon Bay and Kwai Chung Complexes, and the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI) premises at VTC Kowloon Bay Complex and Tin Shui Wai. (Please refer to Annex for details) Through skills demonstrations, parents and students can get to know the diversity of VPET better.

Besides seeing at first hand the teaching facilities of Youth College, visitors can obtain the latest information on its programmes. In Academic Year 2019/20, Youth College will offer a total of 17 DVE programmes under three major study areas: Business and Services, Engineering and Design, and Information Technology, targeting Secondary 3 or above students. Together they offer a balanced curriculum covering generic, vocational and student development modules to nurture all-round students and pave their way for academic and professional progression. Upon satisfactory completion of a DVE programme, graduates can apply for higher diploma programmes of VTC# to obtain a higher academic qualification.

Concurrently the VB programmes provide flexible local and internationally-recognised study options for post-Secondary 3 students, with English as the medium of instruction and assessment. Students will study modules in IGCSE-level English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics. Referencing international benchmarks, programmes leading to the award of the BTEC Level 3 Extension Diploma will be offered, and students can choose from the two study areas of Engineering and Design. Upon conferment of their VB, graduates can progress to degree programmes in Hong Kong and abroad or degree and higher diploma programmes provided by member institutions of VTC.

The DVE and VB programmes are now open for application. Students of Secondary 3 or above are welcome to apply on site during the Open Days or take the opportunity to check out further information available there on programmes and progression pathways. Interested students can also apply online at: http://www.vtc.edu.hk/admission or download application forms through the college webpage at: http://www.yc.edu.hk/ycsite/html/en/admission/application.html
