The easy availability of smartphones, tablets, and thousands of new Apps have opened a world of opportunity to those looking to make their creative mark. This was the inspiration behind a new book from New Talents Press, which aimed to share tips on micro film production for novice directors.

In the book, teachers of the Information Technology Discipline of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) introduce professional techniques of filmmaking, including pre-production work such as crafting the theme, scriptwriting, storyboard development, the selection of shooting angles, sound mixer and lighting in the course of filming, as well as post-production methods including using Apps for editing and uploading to YouTube. The book serves as a comprehensive practical guide on micro film making.

Graduates of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) who have produced micro films released on the internet such as “Come On James”, have also shared their tips and secrets and elaborated on the making of a micro film to enable readers to grasp the fundamentals.
