    VTC students bag all top prizes of Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition

    Students of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) clinched the championship and first and second runners-up as well as a merit prize in the Student Group of the 32nd Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition. The theme of this year was “Sharing”, the winning designs accentuated precious moments with the beloved ones related to our lives.   
     
    CHAN Cheuk-yan, graduate of the HKDI Higher Diploma in Product Design (Timepiece and Lifestyle Products) programmme stood out with his champion design “MIS”, which was inspired by the speed-defying inline skating. Cheuk-yan participated in different competitions from time to time to raise his design skills. He was excited with the good result this time and regarded this a recognition of his talent. She will be arranged for a trip to the BASELWORLD jewellery and watch expo in Switzerland for further exposure.   
     
    The First Runner-up, IVE graduate of the Foundation Diploma in Design YIP Pui-tung, created “Lovers” to allow couples to better enjoy and treasure their private time together through designated messages and records of coupling.  The Second Runner-up KWOK Po-yi, also an HKDI graduate of the Higher Diploma in Product Design (Timepiece & Lifestyle Products) programme, enabled the user to change the watch bands whenever they like with his product named “Epoch”. The Merit Award winner LAM Chin-pong of the same programme created “Lovelock” to put fingerprint to use. A necklace can be added to turn the watch a memorable accessory.   
     
    The annual Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition is organsied by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with a view to upgrading the design standards and quality of watch & clock in Hong Kong and providing a platform showcasing the creativity of young designers. Winning designs will be on display staring today (2 September) to 6 September (Sunday) at Hotel Miramar. On 8 September (Tuesday) to 12 September (Saturday), the designs will be showcased at the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

    Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) is one of member institution under VTC.  It has 9 branch campuses spread across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories that serves as a channel to provide professional education to secondary school graduates and on job individuals.  IVE has set up diversified programmes; it includes Applied Science, Business Administration, Childcare Education and Social Service, Design, Information Technology, Engineering, Hotel, Service and Tourism.  The programmes are divided into Higher Diploma and Foundation Diploma categories.
