    The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Youth College will hold Info Days.

    The Faculty of Management and Hospitality of THEi will give visiting students the chance to learn different physique exercises and get a taste of being a sports coach.

    The Engineering Discipline of IVE (Tsing Yi) will organise demonstrations of a flight control system and various aircraft systems, a method for generating electrical energy from pedal karts and an electric car showcase, all helping visitors to understand the practicality of engineering subjects.

    Starting in the middle of November, various member institutions of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), namely the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and the Youth College will host a series of Info Days (see attached Annex) including school visits, discipline taster programmes and activities, career consultations and talks for parents. These events will help students and parents better understand VTC programmes, which provide a good combination of academic knowledge and industry know-how, as well as a way to diversified articulation and career pathways. Those interested in applying for VTC programmes can do so through online platforms provided on site from 25 November.

    THEi provides career-oriented degree programmes. On 12 November, 2 and 3 December, THEi (Tsing Yi) will host the Info Days. Campus and dorm familiarisation tours will be held to enable members of the public to learn more about its excellent learning environment. Various taster programmes will also be arranged to familiarise students with the study programmes on offer in an enjoyable way. The Faculty of Science and Technology will organise workshops at which students are updated on the latest industry development and applications of innovative technologies. As well as this, students will be coached on how to use smartphones to develop simple augmented reality (AR) apps. The Faculty of Design and Environment will arrange workshops on social media video recording and leather accessories, at which students can exercise their creativity and apply design concepts for a better understanding of the design industry. The Faculty of Management and Hospitality will give visiting students the chance to learn different physique exercises and get a taste of being a sports coach. In tandem, programme talks and admission briefings will be held to highlight the seven degree programmes for academic year 2017/18 under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP), covering the following study areas: Fashion Design, Product Design, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Landscape Management, Culinary Arts and Management, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering and Management. Students admitted to these programmes will be entitled to subsidies ranging from HK$40,000 to HK$70,000 each.

    IVE offers full-time higher diploma programmes. Various IVE campuses will also provide programme and admission briefings, talks for parents and taster programmes during their Info Days. The Business Administration Discipline of IVE (Haking Wong) will organise an event called Solving the Maze of Banking & Finance, in which students can experience in person the work of banking personnel and financial planners, as well as learning the basics of financial education. The Engineering Discipline of IVE (Tsing Yi) will organise demonstrations of a flight control system and various aircraft systems, a method for generating electrical energy from pedal karts and an electric car showcase, all helping students to understand the practicality of engineering subjects. Meanwhile the Information Technology Discipline of IVE (Tuen Mun) will set up AR and Virtual Reality (VR) Experience Zones and demonstrate 3D hologram projections by mobile phone to enable students to experience the fun of technology. The HKDI, which provides quality design education, will mount a Busking show where students of the Higher Diploma in Digital Music and Media will bring to visitors the best “Street Music” in town. There will also be a workshop on DIY your Upcycling fashion making use of fabric waste (denim fabric) to create something new.

    Last but not least, Youth College, which offers a wide range of full-time study choices for youths above Secondary Three, will also hold Info Days on 9 and 10 December. Youth College (Tuen Mun) will conduct taster programmes on hairdressing, facial and hand care as well as a workshop on film editing. Members of the public are welcome.
